Coverage window: Pre-playoff forecast week through Finals Game 7, Sep 18 → Nov 1, 2026 (CST tip dates)
Summary

Golden State won the championship. Before Round 1, that outcome was the defense-weight call: on the main 50/50 model Golden State sat at 24.2% to win the title, behind Minnesota at 36.8%. At a 60/40 defense weighting Golden State became the favorite at 39.9%; at 70/30 it rose to 56.7%. Golden State then beat Atlanta 4–3. Atlanta, 15.5% on the main pre-playoff title board, was the other Finals club.

The Finals played like that call. Five of seven games finished under the market total; only Games 3 and 6 cleared it. Combined scoring averaged 138.9 points a night, and Golden State held Atlanta to 71.4 points per game on 36.4% shooting. Courto leaned Over every Finals night and finished 2–5 on totals — the board that most clearly paid for the defense weighting.

Across the 23 graded playoff games, Courto’s winner pick matched 15–8, the spread lean 14–8 with one Finals push excluded, and the total lean 13–10. Finals grades: moneyline 4–3, spread 3–3, total 2–5. The moneyline closed on Golden State in Games 5, 6 and 7 — Golden State at 59% in G5, Atlanta at 54% in G6, Golden State at 58% in G7 — the same club the defense scenarios had already moved to the front of the title board.

The other pre-playoff flag was Liberty form. On the main model Minnesota was a 77.2% favorite to win the series; weighted for games Breanna Stewart played, that fell to 62.5% (New York’s series chance rising from 22.8% to 37.5%). New York then swept Minnesota 2–0. That was the flag, not a series-score call: the model had already moved the upset into view.
Outliers

Minnesota, Round 1. The main model had Minnesota at 77.2% to win the series and 36.8% to win the title. New York swept 2–0 after Stewart scored 34 in Game 1 and Minnesota never led in Game 2 — the same series the Stewart-form chart had already narrowed.
Finals G1 blow lead. Courto picked Atlanta at 50% and leaned Atlanta +2.6 and Over. Atlanta led for most of the night and by as many as nine, then scored eight in the fourth; Golden State won 68–64 and the total finished 132.
Finals G3 blowout. Courto leaned Golden State +3.2; Atlanta never trailed, won 97–71, and the total cleared the market at 168 — the night the series looked least like a defense grind.
Finals G4 / G5 low totals. Courto leaned Over both nights. Game 4 finished at 129 on a five-point push for the GSV +5.0 lean; Game 5 finished at 119 with Atlanta at 29% from the field. Two of the five unders that defined the series.
How we graded: Courto’s pregame number vs the last pre-tip market (not Kalshi). Moneyline = winner pick (side above 50%). Spread and total = lean vs that market line. A spread push is excluded. Game 2’s 50% winner pick is graded Golden State. These are probabilities, not guarantees.
